Jackson – Excerpt
Her sobs had quietened as the room darkened. We were lying on her bed, and although it had been six months, her grief and anger still overwhelmed her. With every sob I’d listened to, my heart had broken just a little more. I had her wrapped in my arms; her head was resting on my shoulder and my t-shirt was sodden with her tears. Her breathing had deepened and I knew she had finally dropped off to sleep. Each night I’d lain with her, each day I’d sat with her. She was my best friend, but one I was in love with.
I breathed in deep the scent of her hair, the saltiness of her tears, and the pain she was going through. I wanted to turn back the clock; I wanted to absorb all her hurt but I couldn’t. Each day, it was getting harder and harder to conceal my feelings from her. As she turned in my arms to place her back against my chest, I curled into her. I wouldn’t sleep, I couldn’t. The feelings coursing through my body, hatred for her situation, love for her, and an overwhelming desire to fuck her, had my nerves on edge and my skin itch. For months, I’d been able to control my needs, but it was becoming more difficult. I had to make a choice, a very difficult one. I had to leave her, and that decision would destroy me.
I’d never loved a woman before; I thought I was incapable of that. The emotion needed to love had been taken away from me at a very early age. But the feelings she produced, feelings she was completely unaware of, were fucking with my brain, and I was getting dangerously close to revealing who I really was: one fucked up individual. One fucked up individual, who was about to get worse after receiving a text from someone I’d been hiding from.
I gently slid my arm from under her neck and rolled to the edge of the bed. Her alarm clock showed it to be early morning already. As I stood and looked down at her, I heard her murmur my name and a tear rolled down my cheek.
“I’m sorry,” I whispered.
No matter that my brain was telling my legs to move, for a moment my heart was keeping them still. Was I doing the right thing? I crept to the bedroom door and hesitated, taking one last look at her before I left. In my mind it wasn’t forever, I just needed to get my shit together. I needed to be honest with her and tell her how I felt, but I was scared it was too soon. I was terrified of her rejection and of tarnishing our friendship. If I couldn’t have her, the way I wanted, I’d take whatever she offered, but right at that moment, I was about to combust.

Synopsis

Princess Raina’s beloved country is in trouble, and the only way for her to save it is to marry a Prince with coin to spare. Unfortunately, she’s already in love with her bodyguard Gavin…

Raina

At the age of twenty-one, I am to be introduced to society, complete with a royal ball, where I am intended to find a suitable prince.

Mostly, this sounds like fun, until I find out the ball is a ruse. My suitors are under scrutiny for other reasons, and I’m bait.

Apparently, our wealth has been stolen. Our country is practically destitute. It’s my duty to marry us out of the hole, while my bodyguard is supposed to ferret out the thief who has put us here.

Everyone has a secret, and mine is at least as scandalous as most.

I’m in love with my bodyguard. I wonder what he’s hiding behind those dark blue eyes, and I’ll do whatever it takes to find out.

Gavin
When I was hired to guard the princess, I thought it would be an easy job.

Boy, was I wrong.

Her safety is my mission, but Raina’s no delicate flower, and she doesn’t think she needs my protection.

She’s smart and beautiful with a naughty streak that makes me want to claim her for myself. However, if I give in to her charms, I could find myself on the wrong side of a firing squad.

Besides, I’m a hard man who has seen it all, and done unspeakable things in the service of my country. She deserves better, so I focus on tracking the person who has stolen her fortune.

I pray I can find the money. Because if I do, the princess won’t have to marry for money.

She might be able to follow her heart…

Tara’s 4**** Review
True love always wins.
“Denial is how we royals have survived so long. We don’t acknowledge what is right in front of us. Instead, we bury it. Where even we can’t find it. If I’m going to survive this cruel, opulent world I was born into, I’m going to have to learn to do the same thing.”
Princess Raina has had her life planned out for her by the King and Queen. Because of this, Raina has been sheltered from the world. When a scandal rocks their kingdom, the King and Queen force Raina to marry. But she cannot marry just anyone. The catch is, her future husband must be rich. But when Raina has feeling for another man, she must try to bring her kingdom’s scandal to rest, and go after the man of her dreams. Gavin is a protector. Hired on by the kingdom, his job was to protect the King himself. But when trouble rocks the kingdom, his duties shift to protect Princess Raina. This new role also brings forth new feelings and emotions, which Gavin must keep hidden. When he agrees to help Raina save the kingdom, sparks fly and secrets emerge.
“One after the other, they parade her around the dance floor like she’s a prized mare. All chomping at the bit to secure her for their own. To claim the princess and all that comes with being her husband.”
Royal Inheritance is a fun, and lust filled read. The relationship between Raina and Gavin will have you alternating between smiling and biting your fist. There are some intense moments mixed in with heartfelt ones. McKenna does an excellent job intertwining royal expectations, and everyday life. Raina is an incredibly strong and funny woman, who is very easy to like. And Gavin….sigh…is a true knight in shining armour.
“I wonder if little girls who dream of being princesses, if they knew of all the nitty-gritty, if they’d still wish to be of royal blood.”

What would you do if a hot famous person rang your cell phone out of the blue?
How would you feel if he asked to sleep on your couch?
Now, what would your answer be if this smoking hot man was a stranger to the adult you, but had been your soulmate when you were a child?
When Jo Carmichael answered this call, a tender heart beat out of time— but not in the happy and dizzy way you may think.
Most women would gladly beg for an opportunity to spend time with a handsome hot-blooded star, but they weren’t Jo, and Kane Exeter’s job didn’t impress her. More importantly, he’d broken her heart.
However, with a burning curiosity to learn why Kane had deceived her, she doesn’t refuse his pleading request.
Many women viewed a night with Kane as the most glorious time of their lives. To Jo, the man on the line wasn’t famous he was just an older version of a ten-year-old army brat she couldn’t forget.
A contemporary romance for readers over the age of 18.

And now in the language of love…
Battiti Mancati

Missing Beats – excerpt
I had loved Kane Exeter since I was six and a half years old; I just didn’t know it until
later. We met for the first time in Germany when both of our fathers served as military
personnel stationed overseas.
Kane was an alpha boy even then; his thought processes were head and shoulders above
his peers. He was always taking charge and organizing everyone.
As he grew up, that natural leadership combined with his smart as hell brain, had taken
him to places I could only dream about. Kane had no time for girls back then so I
counted myself privileged that he was my friend.
The reality was that he saw me as one of the boys when they were a goalkeeper short for
the barracks under nine’s soccer team.
It may be clichéd to say, but Kane and I just clicked. My brother Matt, who was nine at
the time, and my twin brother, Jacob, were his best friends until he started calling
around for me to hang out with him—about six months later—without my brothers.
Both of my siblings attended band practice and Kane didn’t play, so he hung out with me
instead. It’s strange how things turned out. They practiced their musical instruments
religiously and it was Kane who became a rock star.
Being around him as a kid was effortless, and as young as we were, the special bond that
formed between us made us practically inseparable.
Somehow we instinctively knew what the other was thinking and had an easy friendship
that kept us close. He was my god as an impressionable little girl and he always made
me laugh.
Although my name is Josephine, my family called me Josie, but Kane, he always called
me Jo. In my head, I heard that as the boy’s name, Joe. It fluffed my seven year-old ego
that he thought of me as an equal—one of the boys as it were.
Looking back, we had a pretty secure and idyllic lifestyle on our military campus until
the notice came for our fathers to return to their USA army bases, tilting our small world
on its axis.
We had no idea then how quickly our little lives would change. No one really thought
much about us kids when we were suddenly transferred back. Our endings were abrupt
and without closure to those we’d become attached to. Not being able to see Kane every
day after that felt like a bereavement to me.
I knew from those left behind, that promises made to keep in touch with them rarely
transpired once people departed and moved on. They were never heard from again.
Mom told us, in a matter-of-fact tone, that the army couldn’t afford to care about the
effects on individuals and that our country and its people had to be protected. She said
sacrifices had to be made. I was never sure if that was something she was told, if she’d
made it up or if it was something she believed, but because of the nature of our fathers’
work, Kane and I became emotional casualties of war in our own right.
When we packed up and headed back to Maryland there were tears and promises made
that we’d see each other often.

She was beautiful.
He was my best friend.
I loved her, but he took her away from me, so I left and never looked back.
I thought I understood brotherhood, but then I joined the Black Sentinels and they showed me what real loyalty was. Not like Dean, my childhood best friend. He and I made a pact about Malia, the beautiful girl who moved in next door, but they betrayed me and cut out my heart, and I vowed I would never forgive either of them.
Now she’s here, the girl I loved—the one whose call to my heart was stronger than the call of the ocean, and she needs me and my club to help keep her safe from him.
The thing is, betrayal cuts deep and I’m not sure I can be there for her when I fear falling in love with her all over again.
But that’s a lie. I never stopped loving her. She ruined all other women for me.
Malia Kyler took my heart over a decade ago and never gave it back.
Can I let her in for a second time? Or do I risk it all, and take what should’ve been mine all those years ago?
