She’s on the rebound, and he’s on the prowl.

Aurora “Rory” Pike gave up her dream of becoming an opera superstar long ago. Now she’s content to teach music to the children of Snow Creek while helping her family recover from the wildfire that devastated them. After a messy breakup and a ghost from the past resurfacing, she’s examining her priorities…and they don’t include a passionate kiss from womanizer Brock Steel.

Brock Steel just watched his skirt-chasing mentor—his cousin Donny—give up his playboy ways and fall hard for Callie Pike, sister of Rory Pike, the most beautiful woman in Snow Creek. Rory just ended a relationship, and Brock makes sure he’s there to pick up the pieces. Physically, that is. Emotionally? Brock doesn’t do emotion.

Chemistry between Brock and Rory proves to be hotter than either of them imagined, and it provides a welcome respite, especially for Brock, who’s dealing with a conundrum. As bits and pieces of seemingly unrelated evidence emerge, he must come to terms with the fact that his renowned family may not be the paragon he thought they were.

Some moments in life set you on a path that changes everything.

Meeting Jayce Roberts when I was 16 was my moment.

Falling in love with the ridiculously handsome surfer I met at the beach might have been the beginning of this story, but our goodbye two weeks later wouldn’t be the end.

I did everything I could to move on from that summer. I studied, I worked, and yet I couldn’t erase the feelings of being suffocated by heartbreak in this small seaside town.

So, I left.

A few years turned into twenty, and now life has brought me back to the place I ran from. I thought I’d put Jayce behind me. But when he walked back into my life, he exposed the scars that refused to heal. He wanted a second chance, daring me to remember what we had.

But I vowed long ago that forgiving and forgetting isn’t in my nature. There’s nothing Jayce Roberts can say or do to change my mind.

Or so I thought.

First Chapter – Zennor Now

I used to love the feel of the sand on my feet—the gritty and coarse grains of packed, damp sand or the soft sugary flecks in the warmer, dry parts of the beach. No matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t keep the specks from covering you.

There is no place like Cornwall, and once upon a time, it didn’t matter that I grew up here. I still thought it was the centre of the world.

And it was, for a time.

Clear blue sea to rival the Mediterranean meets bright cornflower skies. The rock cliffs are lush with green and wildflowers—a patchwork of spring—even the grey stone of the cliffs looks warm.

But the weather is fickle, and summer can feel like the depths of winter. And in winter, it’s bitter, as all the colour is sucked from the countryside. The sea turns wild and scary, and the inviting waters are long forgotten.

You have to be hardy to weather a Cornish winter. And when I was feeling low, it was the thing I wished to escape the most.

Until he came into my life.

After him, there were two things I wanted to escape.

I amble along the edge of the beach. The weak sun barely warming my skin. Whenever I feel a moment of heat, the breeze steals it, chilling me back down. As I continue, I wrestle with the lifetime of feelings this place threatens to dredge from me.

In the last twenty years, I’ve walked on many a beach. But never back here. Never in Cornwall. But I’m not in a position to choose the white sands of the Maldives or somewhere glorious and sunny in the Caribbean.

This was my family home, and I had no choice but to come here, for a time at least.

Gather myself. Plan and put this failure of a marriage behind me.

The happiness I escaped here to find might still be a step out of reach. Especially when being back here only reminds me that time hasn’t healed the wounds I ran from in the first place.

Review by Julie

Oh my this book is all the feels.  Unfinished Summer gave me butterflies from the moment I started to read it.

This small town romance set in Cornwall covers the lives of Jayce and Zennor, and how two weeks one summer shaped their entire futures.

For Jayce, spending two weeks on a family holiday before he goes off surfing the waves of the world is made a whole lot better by the girl with a big smile.  Zennor is working her summer at Molly’s before she starts her college course and starts her future.

“I think I love you, Zee.”

Their friendship shines through and you can’t help but smile when they smile, buzz on the flush of that first love feeling and feel their  pain when the realisation that it comes to an end and the devastation that follows.

“He was my first everything, and I want to remember every minute of our time together, even though it hurts.”

20 years and a lifetime later, Jayce returns to the town with one person on his mind, but has time, distance and the heartbreak of the consequences of their past ruined any chance of any kind of reconciliation.  Both have suffered pain and loss, and even happy memories can cause the pain to resurface.

“Don’t you want to take a leap of faith for something you know feels right?”

This story is so much more than about first love, it’s about life and acceptance, painful experiences and second chances at the best kind of love.  It’s also a journey into adulthood and beyond learning to forgive and but not forget.  You can’t help but love them both, and become frustrated because you can see what they can’t.

Rachel has such an incredible way with words, and her affection for her characters is evident in the story, with such expressive writing you are submerged into their lives and don’t reappear until you reach the end.

This is a fabulous summer sizzling read that should be on everyone’s TBR list.  Rachel, you are bloody brilliant!

Review by Tara

“The shattered pieces of my heart I’d worked so hard to forge back together seem to have crumbled with such ease that I have to grip the wooden table to stop myself from dissolving right here.”
My heart took an emotional rollercoaster ride while reading Unfinished Summer. From happiness, to sadness, to hope, to heartbreak, you will get all the feels from this book.
“Nothing we do has any special significance. Nothing we do is expensive or flashy, but that’s not how it feels to us. Every minute is precious between us as though we both understand there’s a finite amount of them, and we want to save every one for each other.”
Meeting one summer day, Zennor and Jayce fall quickly into a young summer romance. But just as fast as it starts, it has to end, with each of them following their dreams and future plans. When something unexpected and tragic happens, Zennor hides her heart away, not even contacting Jayce. Jayce, living his absolute dream, is clueless as to what Zennor is going through and why she hasn’t gotten in touch. Fast forward 20 years, Zennor and Jayce see other again. With the past still causing her pain, Zennor wants nothing to do with Jayce, except to hurt him. Jayce on the other hand, has all the time in the world to wait for Zennor, and he’s not backing down.
“Maybe our lives had to follow the path we followed so we could arrive here and appreciate the opportunity we have before us because I know that this warmth—this wholesomeness radiating through me—is something I want to grab onto with both hands.”
Rachel, Rachel, Rachel…. Well done!! Unfinished Business is the kind of young love romance everyone should read. From teenage angst, to grown up scenarios, Rachel takes us through growing up, showing us the true and raw feelings that comes with the process. Both Jayce and Zennor are the perfect main characters. Watching them grow was a pleasure. I literally couldn’t put this book down! Unfinished Summer is a fantastic summer read!

Tara’s 4**** Review

Both suffering a tragic loss, Maisy and Cain do not want to let people into their lives, so they cannot get hurt. When they come together for a good cause, sparks fly and wheels turn in False Start!
“And I showed up front and center for the battle between us that would never be over. Because in life, and especially in roller derby, when they knock you down, you get back up. You always get back up.”
Growing up alone, Maisy only had herself, until she find the Crossroads, a youth group. Settling down in Galloway Bay, Maisy finds her solace in skates, at the Roller Derby rink. Volunteering and skating take up a lot of Maisy’s time, so when Priest comes back to town, Maisy’s attention takes a different direction.
“The price of my disastrous decision was never paid in full.  The balance destined to hang over my head for a lifetime.  What the hell was I doing here?  What business did I have getting involved with anyone, carrying my stains into their lives, making them bear the cost of my mistakes?”
Cain (Priest) comes back Galloway Bay, dragging his past with him. With a plan to only stay and help his sister, Cain plans to be in and out. But one look at Maisy on her skates, and Cain is mesmerized. Seeing Roller Derby again, brings back old feelings and worries, but when the town comes together to help the Crossroads, Cain falls back into a role he never thought he’d be in.
“I’d never need another drink. No drug could match this. No other man, or woman, had the power to coil me so tight and give me sweet relief in the same moment. Just this man, his touch, his kiss, his unshakeable dedication.”
False Start is an intriguing read. As a Roller Derby novice, I have learned some things about the sport. One thing i really loved about this book is the connection between Cain and Maisy. Watching their relationship build had my heart beating!! I look forward to see what Echo has next for us!

Writing is Scarlett’s purpose in life. She’s just lacking inspiration. She keeps getting interrupted by everyone in need—and animals and trees and flowers.

Like Cole. His move to her small town has to be fate. A surgeon sporting a super-hot, disapproving stern face with the bluest eyes she’d ever seen? Surely, a smile lived inside him somewhere—and she was just the woman to unleash it. And, bonus! He’s perfect hero material for her book. If only he’d agree to it…

But Cole has no plans to spend time with a sassy, hippie who thinks flowers have feelings. He tries his hardest to stay away—and fails, repeatedly. That incredible urge to back her up against a wall and do things to her? Their chemistry can’t be real. It can’t be.

A meet cute, opposites attract, can’t-help-yourself, steamy romantic comedy.

Review by Tara

I loved this book! Scarlett has always intrigued me, and I was excited to see that she has her own story!
“A beat of silence between them lengthened. He could stop this now. Just say good night and end this call. But he didn’t. He went on to describe more. The soft sounds she’d make.”
Scarlett grew up surrounded by rumours about her family and their life. Deciding that she was better than those rumours, Scarlett decided to live her life just being herself. She experienced things as she saw them, with an open heart and open mind. Meeting Cole, an aspiring heart surgeon, triggered Scarlett’s love for writing, but learning so much good about someone, only makes your heart fall faster. When Cole meets Scarlett, he cannot get away from her faster. But the more they talked and the more he listened, he saw someone that the people in their small town didn’t. Cole learned more about himself just by being with Scarlett. But when insecurities rise, can Scarlett and Cole overcome what’s holding them back?
“Lost to him. She sent one final thank you to the beach gods and goddesses for letting her have that moment. Even when it ended, she’d remember him as one of the best men she’d ever encountered.”
Bravo to Elizabeth for It Was All The Daisy’s Fault. This book was so entertaining and full of all the feels. Reconnecting with past characters is great, but seeing deeper into Scarlett’s story is the selling point, especially if you have read the previous books in this series! The main characters groove so well together, making this love story a win!
“One look into his blue eyes, and she’d cave. Be willing to settle for just bits and pieces of him—or worse, start to filter herself. She was done with scraps—and she hadn’t even realized that was what she’d settled for in the past.”
