Blurb:

Eve can juggle work, school and a fixer-upper house just fine with a little help from YouTube. Well, she could, if her beloved cat, Thor, would stop getting into trouble—like getting stuck behind the walls. Thankfully, plumbers make house calls at ridiculous-o’clock in the morning.

Enter Brent who not only has all the power tools she needs, he looks like the God Thor. A mountain of muscle with movie-star hair, shining green eyes, and a perfectly scruffed, chiseled jaw. Just great. She doesn’t have time for all the lusty neediness rising where it should not be rising.

Eve reminds herself and her weakening knees that she’s a strong, independent woman determined to make it without anyone’s help. But as more renovation and cat-astrophes pile on, she finds her fingers doing the walking to call Brent to her rescue.

And she has to decide if keeping him at arm’s length fits her life plan, or if it’s the biggest miscalculation she’s ever made.

It doesn’t help Thor seems to be in cahoots with Brent when it comes to foisting romance on her.

Review by Tara

Determined to be a strong and independent female, Eve decides she would always take matters into her own hands. Succeed at school and buy her own home and renovate it…these are Eve’s goals. One night, her loveable cat gets inside her walls, and Eve has to call for help. Enter Thor…I mean Brent, cat-rescuer extraordinaire. Sparks fly, but Eve cannot let one man get in the way of her goals. When Brent proves to be an expert in home renos, Eve cannot believe her luck, good or bad. Brent will stop at nothing to prove to Eve that she can have her cake and eat it to, she just has to let people in.
“Surely, he had a fatal flaw that she’d yet to discover. She didn’t have time to invest in things that wouldn’t pan out.”
It Was The Cat’s Fault is a cute love story. Eve is totally relatable, from her drive to her little bouts of jealousy! Brent is a superhuman hot man, capable of renovating anything, even Eve’s heart. Scarlett is there as Eve’s sidekick and our little dose of humour. With some tense and emotional moments, It Was The Cat’s Fault is the perfect book to read while you’re curled up with a glass of wine!
“They did that staring thing at each other again, like who would cave first, or maybe they didn’t know how to move forward from here. If love was all it took, then so many couples would still be together. Truth was, she hadn’t a clue what kept people together or how they made things work.”

Review by Julie

The saying “everything happens for a reason” comes to mind after reading this book.  When Thor the Cat gets stuck in a wall (love Thor!)….yep this Cat gets into all sorts of trouble, Eve has no choice other than call the emergency plumber out.  Brent comes to save the day and retrieves Thor unharmed, he soon becomes Eve’s knight in shining armor with power tools!.  Brent is HOT and honestly I would be willing the Cat to get into mischief if he was going to come and sort the problem out.

Eve is attracted to Brent from the get go, but has set herself goals in life and she is driven to succeed, not wanting to rely on anyone for anything.  Brent, an accomplished Builder, Architect and Tradesman comes along and derails it, but with his heart on his sleeve it is all with good intentions and for all the right reasons.

With constant things to do list running in her head, Eve is battling head and heart, their attraction is mutual but they couldn’t be different causing ups, downs and miscommunication.

“Stop thinking I’m waiting for the moment to take something away from you. I’m trying to give to you.”

Can Eve get past her deal she made with her Dad and her wish not to be like her family and let Brent in?  Are relationships that far off her radar, that she doesn’t realise depth of feeling?

“I don’t want to lose myself, and when I think I might, I push back. Sometimes hard.

This story will have you laughing out loud, sighing in frustration and rooting for two people when you know they should be together.  Another fab edition to the Meet Cute series by the fabulous Elizabeth SaFleur
